Walt Disney World Village Guidemap 1987

Today's  guidemap shows us the Walt Disney World Village/Disney Village Marketplace/Downtown Disney Marketplace circa 1987.  This is before the Westside and Pleasure Island back when the village was still a rustic wooded shopping area.

Studio Backlot Tour

Ride the tour tram past the costuming department. See vehicles and props from Disney movies. Travel down Residential Street to see houses from Splash Too, The Golden Girls and Empty Nest. Thrill to the excitement of Catastrophe Canyon. Some of these things you can still do but Residential Street is long gone.

Disney Towel

This towel is from the 1970's.  It's tattered and frayed because I've had it for as long as I can remember.  The towel has two images on it.  The first is Mickey leading the band down Main Street.  The second is Mickey and Goofy sending smoke signals in Frontierland.  The backgrounds are in a faint blue which has faded over the years.  There used to be a washcloth that went with it that I believe depicted a scene in Adventureland but it's been lost for years.

Main Street Electrical Parade

Today a couple of pieces of merchandise from the Main Street Electrical Parade.  First is a 33 1/3 rpm record featuring the music from the parade.  It was originally released in 1977 but I didn't buy my copy until the late 80's at the Emporium for the bargain price of $2.98.  It's a great picture disc record.

Dinosaur Gertie's Ice Cream Of Extinction

Dinosaur Gertie's Ice Cream of Extinction is shaped to resemble Gertie the Dinosaur from a short animated film of the same name by Winsor McCay from 1914.  Gertie stands just off shore in the waters of Echo Lake with a little bridge to purchase you're frozen treats.

Oops!  It looks like Gertie left her mark on her way to the lake.

Must be a cold day since Gertie has steam coming out of her nose as she exhales.

Hoop Dee Doo Revue Mug

This is a glass mug from the Hoop Dee Doo Revue at Fort Wilderness.  I think I got this at a cast member sale in the mid-90's for like a dollar.  It's a fun little mug shaped like a boot.
